The 7 Magic Steps of Achievement

{VIA}

***After you read this post, be sure to visit me at my new home here.***

In order to achieve anything, you absolutely must have your ducks in a row. There are simple yet not-so-easy steps that can accelerate you on your quest for achievement. In fact, when you "have your act together" you can by-pass all of the folks who are showing up without a plan, hoping for success, all while living mostly in reaction. By taking a strategic, intentional and proactive approach to success, you'll achieve your outcomes faster, easier and with less stress.

1. Set clear long-term and short-term goals and commit 100%. Make sure that you're motivated by, and committed to, the goals you've set for yourself. This will help ensure you're willing to take the necessary steps to reach those goals successfully.

Who Hires a Coach?

***After you read this post, be sure to visit me at my new home here.***

Professionals hire a coach for many different reasons. For some, it is to assist them in starting or growing a business, for others it is to accelerate their personal development or to help them through a life transition such as a career change or to accelerate their progress. In truth, it is achievers who hire coaches - those who know there is another level. They've gotten pretty far on their own, and they just aren't sure how to get where they truly want to go.

The common thread among all people who hire a coach is that they want results. They want to see and experience tangible progress toward important goals and objectives. They want balance, fulfillment and increased income. They want increased productivity, to be organized and more effective. Oh yes, and they want to have a personal life that's happy.

Hiring a professional coach for assistance is no different than an athlete who hires a coach to help them train in a sport when the objective is to increase the likelihood of meeting particular goals (and what professional athlete do you know of that doesn't have a coach?!). A coach will help you stay focused on what is important, will challenge you to do more than you might think is possible, and will make consistent, big requests of you. In short, a coach will support, encourage, and coach you toward the goals that are most important to you.

4 Ways to Make Today Awesome

***After you read this post, be sure to visit me at my new home here.***

My daughter has always had personality in spades. And she can let things roll off her back like no-one else I have ever seen.

When someone is rude, doesn't call her back, or tells her no, she just doesn't really seem to care. She's pretty happy-go-lucky and while I've been concerned about her getting her feelings hurt {which happens, don't get me wrong}, most of the time she just doesn't care.

As a professional trying to make it in today's world, you've got more than your fair share of challenges and each one of them brings with it the seed of you possibly being an unhappy camper. But what happens doesn't have to determine how you feel about it, and it can't shake your positive attitude if you don't let it.

Make Every Call Count Part 1

***After you read this post, be sure to visit me at my new home here.***

In this series, I share tips for making every call you make count. You can't not make calls, and your excuses aren't cutting it because they simply aren't adding cash to your bottom line.

There is one thing that stands out as an important differentiating factor between those who have average success and those who consistently soar. It is not enough to go on appointments, send out fancy packets, and pass your card around. You have to be willing to become masterful at using the phone.

Use these 17 "quick tips" for making every call count, and you will be more masterful the next time you dial. Here are the first 5:

Put Yourself in a Peak State! Do not simply locate the number and begin to dial. Visualize the person picking up the phone, saying how glad he or she is to hear from you. Expect the call to be excellent!

I Call Bullshit Series: Excusa Numero Tres

***After you read this post, be sure to visit me at my new home here.***

In this three-part series, I listen patiently to the reasons you think you can't achieve your BHAGs (Big Hairy Audacious Goals). Then I call bullshit, and give you the reasons you can achieve them

Excusa Numero Tres: "My current situation (job, marriage, status) makes it too hard."

  1. Your current situation means nothing. If you decide it means nothing, that is. If you keep selling yourself on why you can't do "it" (whatever "it" is), then you're absolutely right. No-one committed to their outcome can be stopped by someone or something less committed. Period.
  2. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. It matters what you think. If someone dares to rain on your parade, get a cute umbrella and some wellies. Seriously, a spouse, friend or relative that doesn't support you needs to be replaced. Or at least proven wrong. Do what you want to do, in spite of what anyone else is telling you.
  3. You're too young? Not a chance. The days, weeks, and years will pass, so get started today and by the time you're "old enough" you'll have a ton of experience. Too old? That means you've got tons of experience and can use that to your advantage. Married? Single? Unemployed? Too-employed? Give it up, none of these hold real water. Turn your excuse into your secret weapon.
I've countered all of your "reasons" for not going after your BHAGs, so the only thing you can do now is get started. Right? Start by repeating after me:

I Call Bullshit Series: Excusa Numero Dos

***After you read this post, be sure to visit me at my new home here.***

In this three-part series, I listen patiently to the reasons you think you can't achieve your BHAGs (Big Hairy Audacious Goals). Then I call bullshit, and give you the reasons you can achieve them

Excusa Number Dos: "I'm too old, young, smart, stupid, orange, under-educated, over-educated, married, or single."

Excusa Number Tres: "My current situation (job, marriage, status) makes it too hard."

    1. You are able and capable. Today. Just as you are. You may or may not "need" additional education. It would have been nice if you would have started a decade ago. But so what? There is enough plenty! of evidence that people without a college education, who started late in life, or are single parents can still MSH (make sh*t happen).
    2. Stop with the Stories and Excuses. You can focus on what you don't have, or you can focus on what you do have. Do you speak English? Can you count currency? Do you know how to ask for help? Then you can probably take step -- giant steps -- toward your BHAGs, starting right now, today. Create a story about how you can, you will, achieve your goals. Visualize the end today and every day until your vision is your reality.
    3. What you don't have, you can get, find, or buy. Tons of resources exist to assist you. Lots of people out there love to be part of a successful team. If you don't already have what you need, search the internet, post what you're looking for on Facebook, ask your friends, co-workers, family, neighbors and members of your church. Seek and you will find.
You do have everything you need to success, you just have to look for it.

I Call Bullshit Series: Excusa Numero Uno

***After you read this post, be sure to visit me at my new home here.***

In this three-part series, I listen patiently to the reasons you think you can't achieve your BHAGs (Big Hairy Audacious Goals). Then I call bullshit, and give you the reasons you can achieve them
Excusa Numero Uno*: "I don't have enough time."
Excusa Numero Dos: "I'm too old, young, smart, stupid, orange, under-educated, over-educated, married, or single."
Excusa Numero Tres: "My current situation (job, marriage, status) makes it too hard."

      1. Make it a must, instead of a should. There's always enough time for what's important. "I don't have time" says, "This isn't important enough for me to make time for it." You probably watch way too much television, or piddle away precious hours on Facebook, or waste time discussing last night's episode of Gilmore Girls. The average American watches 28 hours of television a week -- refocus that time and in just a few months you'll have read all the books on your bedside table, learned a new language, and still had time left-over to brainstorm ten brilliant ideas that would or could revolutionize your life, business, job, or practice.
      2. Use "Wheels-Up University" to your advantage. If you're in the car an inordinate amount of time, use that as a time multiplier, instead of a time divider. Make a list of people you need to call, those prospects, clients or contacts that don't necessarily need to chat with you while you're in front of your computer. Listen to audiobooks or language CDs. Respond to messages and emails by dictating your responses.
      3. Eat Moby Dick one bite at a time. You can achieve anything if you make it at least a minimum priority every business day. I'm learning foreign languages, one a year. I "don't have time" to move to Spain to perfect my Spanish, so I do two quick lessons a day. These lessons take about 20 minutes. In eleven months, I'll be able to carry on basic conversations. I write a couple to a few books a year. Am I sequestered in my home on the ocean six months out of the year? Nope, not yet anyway. I write at least 5 minutes a day. Sometimes I get to write for hours. Most days, I can squeeze in at least 30 minutes. Check out what I've accomplished in just the last few years.
You do have enough time, you just have to discover where you've put it.
